Houston Dynamo sit one game away from tying MLS home unbeaten record

Giles Barnes and Houston teammates celebrate

Maybe it's all that orange in the building.

Since BBVA Compass Stadium opened its doors in May 2012, the Houston Dynamo have yet to taste defeat at home with their latest victory coming on Saturday night, a 2-0 win over the defending Supporters' Shield winning San Jose Earthquakes.

Dating back to the old Robertson Stadium days, the Dynamo's overall undefeated streak at home now stands at 34 and counting in all competitions and Dominic Kinnear's men can tie Real Salt Lake's MLS-record unbeaten run (29) when they host the Chicago Fire on April 14.

HoustonDynamo.com, courtesy of the Elias Sports Bureau, dug up the numbers of the longest home unbeaten runs in North American professional sports and it turns out the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls (NBA) aren't that far off from the Dynamo with a stretch of 44 undefeated games at home between March 30, 1995 and April 4, 1996.

The Elias Sports Bureau also crunched the stats for unbeaten runs to open a new stadium (see Peter Hirdt's tweet below). If Houston can hold on for eight more results at BBVA, the Dynamo can come away with that record, too.

Most games w/out a loss at new home venue: NBA Wash Capitols, 27 (Uline Arena); WNBA LA Sparks, 22 (Staples); MLS @houstondynamo, 20 (BBVA)
