Montreal Impact 1, Columbus Crew 0
Justin Mapp's clever second-half strike sent the Montreal Impact to a 1-0 win over the Columbus Crew in the championship game of the Disney Pro Soccer Classic on Saturday.
Mapp's winner just after halftime proved a just reward for an industrious Montreal side, who held most of the possession and created the better chances in the first half.
The game started at a walking pace, with neither side taking many risks. Montreal, though content to hold the ball, had some solid surges forward, though crosses from both Marco Di Vaio and Hassoun Camara flashed across the box without an Impact player touching them.
It took until the second half, but the Impact's positive play paid off in the 54th minute. A corner kick found its way to Justin Mapp at the top of the area, with the winger taking a touch and hitting it with the outside of his left foot off the inside of the post and in, just beyond the reach of Andy Gruenebaum.
Neither side offered much more going forward, with the Crew giving Perkins some routine saves. Eddie Gaven whipped a free kick just inches over the bar in the 90th minute for the Crew's last chance.
Sporting Kansas City 1, Toronto FC 0
Sporting KC Designated Player Claudio Bieler got off the mark for his new club on Friday afternoon, scoring the lone goal of the game to send Sporting to a 1-0 win over Toronto FC.
The Argentine forward netted in the 23rd finishing off an excellent move between Chance Myers and Soony Saad with a smart finish of his own.
Toronto looked strong throughout the game, even after Darren O'Dea picked up a 57th minute red card after receiving his second caution, but Jimmy Nielsen and the Sporting backline held firm.
D.C. United 2, Philadelphia Union 0
D.C. United scored once in each half to end their Disney Pro Soccer Classic slate on a positive note on Saturday, topping the Philadelphia Union 2-0.
Dwayne De Rosario notched the first goal of the game from the penalty spot after Union goalkeeper Zac MacMath brought down D.C. striker Lionard Pajoy in the box on a breakaway, which also resulted in a yellow card for MacMath.
Tempers flared not long after the break though, and De Rosario was sent off for an apparent headbutt on Philly's Danny Cruz just before the hour mark. The incident came after the D.C. man reacted to a hard tackle from Brian Carroll and Cruz intervened.
Though Pajoy missed a number of chances prior, he came good in the 67th minute, putting home a one-touch finish off a feed from Panamanian trialist Marcos Sánchez to seal the win for United.
