Tucson Friendlies: Young Quakes side tops Dynamo 2-0

Houston trialist Frank Songo'o goes up against San Jose draft pick Colin Mitchell

Trialist Alexandre Emerson stole the show for a young San Jose Earthquakes side as they topped the Houston Dynamo 2-0 in the Desert Friendlies preseason tournament on Tuesday.

After the Dynamo failed to captalize on a strong first half, the Earthquakes came out better in the first half and were rewarded 10 minutes in when second-half sub Emerson ripped one past Tyler Deric to give San Jose the lead.

The Quakes got their shot at a second goal late in the game as Jacob Hustedt was clipped from behind as he was cutting into the penalty box. Emerson converted the resulting spot kick to ice the game for San Jose in the waning minutes of the match.

Portland topped Colorado 3-1 in the earlier game of the day, while Sporting Kansas City drew 1-1 with local outfit FC Tucson in the late game.
