Califf, Casey among 14 picked in Stage 2 Re-Entry Draft

Toronto FC selected veteran defender Danny Califf with the first overall pick in Stage 2 of the 2012 Re-Entry Draft on Friday afternoon.

While nine clubs decided against making any Re-Entry pick-ups, the defending Supporters' Shield winners San Jose Earthquakes were the busiest team with three defensive selections in the Re-Entry Draft: Dan Gargan, Ty Harden and Bryan Jordan.

The two-time reigning MLS Cup champions LA Galaxy executed a trade with Chivas USA just before the draft to move up to No. 2, where they picked ex-Houston Dynamo midfielder Colin Clark. The Galaxy also selected veteran Columbus Crew goalkeeper William Hesmer in the second round of the draft.

In other notable moves, the Philadelphia Union landed forward Conor Casey, the New England Revolution picked up striker Chad Barrett and D.C. United opted for experienced midfielder John Thorrington.

Teams that made selections will now have seven days to make a genuine offer to the players chosen in Stage 2. In the event that an agreement cannot be reached, the club will still hold the right of first refusal for that player in MLS.

Players that went unselected in Stage 2 of the Re-Entry are now available to all teams on a first-come-first-serve basis.
