Donovan takes Player of the Week with 4-assist Sunday

Landon Donovan

There was only one thing more impressive than Landon Donovan's four-assist performance Sunday night vs. Chivas USA – he should have had more.

If not for a point-blank save from Dan Kennedy on Robbie Keane and a Marcelo Sarvas strike that rattled the frame, the LA Galaxy captain would have had at least six. In the absence of David Beckham, Donovan's four helpers earned him Week 23's Player of the Week, as voted on by the North American Soccer Reporters (see who and how the media voted here).

The Galaxy star received a resounding 14 out of a possible 17 first-place votes this week en route to his second Player of the Week award in 2012. After a three-goal, two-assist performance in two games vs. Real Salt Lake and the Vancouver Whitecaps, Donovan took home the honor in Week 16.

Sporting Kansas City's Graham Zusi, Chicago's Chris Rolfe and fellow Galaxy teammate Juninho also received first-place votes this week.
