American Exports: Can Rosenborg get Diskerud in time?

Mikkel Diskerud

AMSTERDAM – Traditional Norwegian power Rosenborg are moving closer to the capture of Stabæk midfield ace Mikkel Diskerud, MLSsoccer.com has learned, but they are battling a ticking clock to get the move finalized before the next league match.

A source close to the negotiations informed MLSsoccer.com that basement club Stabæk are planning to name the US international to the squad for Sunday's key survival clash against Sandnes Ulf. Should Diskerud play in that contest, he will be ineligible to move within the Tippeligaen until the winter.

With Brann and a Danish Superliga side dropping out of the race this week, only 22-time league champs Rosenborg and current leaders Strømsgodset remain in the bidding. Recent loan employers Gent tried to make Diskerud's move permanent, but were unable to strike a deal with Stabæk last month before moving on to another transfer target.

Diskerud has played 80 Tippeligaen matches for Stabæk, who stand 10 points adrift of a shot at safety with 12 games to play.

Meanwhile, Rosenborg stand third in the table, six points off the top. On Thursday, they will host the second leg of their Europa League third qualifying-round tie against Swiss side Servette, with the aggregate deadlocked at 1-1.
