Seattle's Johnson earns Player of the Week for Week 22

Eddie Johnson and Adam Johansson

Eddie Johnson loves the big stage.

The Seattle Sounders forward earned Week 22 Player of the Week honors from the North American Soccer Reporters (see who and how the media voted here) by scoring his 10th goal of the season Sunday night against the LA Galaxy – and contributing to two others – in front of more than 60,000 fans at CenturyLink Field en route to a 4-0 thrashing of the defending MLS Cup Champions.

Johnson opened the scoring off a header in the 6th minute that sent the Seattle crowd – the second-largest in Sounders history behind Kasey Keller's final game before retirement – into a frenzy that didn't stop until the final whistle.

The 2006 World Cup veteran received six out of the 13 first-place votes and becomes the first Seattle Sounder to win the award since David Estrada in Week 2. Also receiving first-place votes were FC Dallas goalkeeper Kevin Hartman, Montreal's Felipe and Alessandro Nesta, Chicago's Austin Berry and fellow Sounder Mauro Rosales.
