Houston's Moffat suspended for tackle, Fernandez fined

NEW YORK – The Major League Soccer Disciplinary Committee announced Friday that Houston Dynamo midfielder Adam Moffat has been suspended for one game and fined an undisclosed amount for a reckless challenge during the Dynamo’s match against the Seattle Sounders last Friday.

Moffat caught Sounders midfielder Osvaldo Alonso just below the knee with a high boot in the 35th minute and was shown a yellow card for the challenge by referee Baldomero Toledo. The committee's decision that Moffat endangered the safety of his opponent led to the suspension and fine.


Moffat will miss the April 15 match at at the Chicago Fire. 

The Disciplinary Committee also fined Seattle Sounders FC midfielder Álvaro Fernández an undisclosed amount for embellishment of contact in the 82nd minute of the same match.

Fines collected will be donated to the charitable partners of MLS W.O.R.K.S. and the MLS Players Union.
