Two cities await first MLS appearance by Beckham

LA's David Beckham and RBNY's Thierry Henry vie for possession.

David Beckham’s success in drawing massive crowds for LA Galaxy road games has been well-documented in MLS league play and abroad.

It’s the main reason that the Galaxy can travel far and wide in the offseason on tour, including in Indonesia, the Philippines and Australia this past December.

Back here in North America, there are two MLS cities that have yet to get a taste of Beckham-mania but will have a chance in the next two years. Both are recent expansion teams that hail from Canada: Vancouver and Montreal.

Although Becks has been to Vancouver before in November 2007, he wasn’t there when LA handed the Whitecaps a 4-0 whitewash last year in Vancouver's inaugural season in the league. In 2012, they are scheduled to face each other on July 18 at BC Place.

Montreal Impact fans will be waiting for May 12 to give a warm welcome to the English midfielder.

Including the postseason, Beckham has visited New York more than any other MLS market – a total of five times. At RFK Stadium vs. D.C. United is the next road fixture he’s featured in the most times (four) outside LA. New England, Dallas and Kansas City fans have had three chances to watch him play.

BECKHAM'S ROAD APPEARANCES IN MLS (including postseason):

5 appearances = 1 city (New York)

4 appearances = 2 cities (Washington, D.C. and LA - Chivas USA)

3 appearances = 3 cities (Dallas, New England, Kansas City)

2 appearances = 4 cities (San Jose, Salt Lake, Seattle, Chicago)

1 appearance = 6 cities (Portland, Toronto, Philadelphia, Houston, Columbus and Colorado)

0 appearances = 2 cities (Vancouver and Montreal)
