American Exports: US U-17 Dunn going to Serbian club

US U-17 midfielder Matthew Dunn

AMSTERDAM — US youth international Matthew Dunn is set to spurn Serie A interest to sign with Serbian outfit OFK Beograde when he turns 18 in January, MLSsoccer.com has learned.

The Dallas native, who worked all four contests in midfield for the US at the 2011 FIFA U-17 World Cup this past summer, is a free agent after two years in the FC Cologne academy. Dunn was recently pursued by the likes of Atalanta, Chievo and Genoa, but sources indicated that the youngster opted for September training hosts OFK Beograde because they were the only suitor to offer him a first-team deal.

The Romantičari, currently seventh in the Serbian Super Liga with a three-game win streak, finished sixth last term. Though perpetually in the shadow of local rivals Red Star Belgrade, the club has earned Europa League or UEFA Cup qualifying berths in three of the last six seasons.

In 2011, Dunn notched an assist in 13 matches with the US Under-17 national team. Overall, former Bradenton resident has one goal in 18 caps.
