Seattle's Neagle claims Player of the Week honors

He represents the story of the local boy done good. And now he's Player of the Week.

Seattle Sounders midfielder Lamar Neagle earned his first career Player of the Week award after registering a hat trick in his team's historic 6-2 win over the Columbus Crew on Saturday. He earned all but three of the 19 votes in voting administered by the North American Soccer Reporters.

The native of Federal Way, Wash., opened the goal fest after just four minutes and then added his team's third and fifth goals on the afternoon to take his season total to five tallies. Two of his goals are candidates for AT&T Goal of the Week honors.

Neagle was signed and later waived by the Sounders in 2009 before playing for the Charleston Battery and IFK Mariehamn in Finland. This season, the 24-year-old played 17 league matches and on Saturday was making his sixth start at left midfield.

It's the fourth Player of the Week award for a Sounders player this year after Jeff Parke (Week 10), Fredy Montero (Week 17) and Mauro Rosales (Week 18).
