HOUSTON — The Houston Dynamo took another hit to their roster on Tuesday. This time, it’s rookie Will Bruin who will be out of the lineup for four to six weeks.
According to a club release, the forward underwent successful surgery on his left knee to repair damage to his lateral meniscus. The news comes a day after the club learned that Danny Cruz will miss a similar amount of time with a torn quad muscle.
Bruin currently holds the team record for starts (20) by a rookie and was an early-season favorite for Rookie of the Year before cooling off through the summer.
As of now, Houston are left with just three fully healthy forwards in Brian Ching, Cam Weaver and Jason Garey.
Reinforcements could be coming soon, though, in the shape of veteran Calen Carr. The former Chicago Fire forward was upgraded from “out” to “questionable” on the latest injury report and has seen his participation in training increase in recent weeks as he recovers from a concussion.
“We brought him here because we know what type of forward he is,” said Dynamo head coach Dominic Kinnear. “He’s one of those players that has good pace and can get behind the defense. We knew his condition before he came but we also knew that he’s the type of forward we can use. He’s progressing and hopefully his health can give us four forwards soon.”
While Carr’s participation is picking up, Kinnear was adamant that the forward still has to receive medical clearance to rejoin full training.
In the meantime, Houston will have to cope with the loss of Bruin, who has been a bright spot for them through the first two-thirds of the season.
Steel goes up at Dynamo stadium site
Houston president of business operations Chris Canetti and Ching celebrated the raising of the first piece of steel at the Dynamo stadium site.
Now that the frame of the stadium is starting to come out of the ground, Dynamo players and fans will start to see progress on their new home. For Ching, the first sign of the stadium’s structure is driving his enthusiasm to play in the club’s new home.
“We’ve been talking about this stadium for about five years, and to see progress is pretty special,” said Ching, the club’s all-time leading scorer, in a team release. “I’m so excited that I already bought six premium seats, so I’m looking forward to having good seats here when my playing days are done to hopefully watch the Dynamo win a couple more championships.”
