AMSTERDAM - The agent for Lazio and Nigeria forward Stephen Makinwa says his client is still eager to play in Major League Soccer, despite recently having a chance to join one of the league's Canadian sides fall through.

The 27-year-old, who spent last season on loan with Greek side Larissa, is an impending free agent who has not featured for his parent Serie A outfit since 2009.

His rep confirmed recent reports that Makinwa had been in advanced talks with an MLS outfit north of the border, but informed that the opportunity was no longer there.

"This was correct, but it is not correct anymore," Paolo Fabbri told MLSsoccer.com on Tuesday. "Unfortunately, the team changed their minds. For now, there is nothing, but we would love to market him in America."

Lagos native Makinwa journeyed to Italy as a 16-year-old, starting with Serie D club Conegliano. Steadily rising through the Italian ranks, he starting creating buzz in early top flight stints with Atalanata and Palermo, only to fall short of making the grade at Lazio.

In all, Makinwa has netted 15 goals in 119 Serie A contests. He also has a goal in 16 Nigeria appearances, but has not played for the Super Eagles since 2008.
