American Exports: Gatt brace, assist lead Molde in Cup

AMSTERDAM — Josh Gatt opened his Molde FK account with two goals and added an "NHL assist" as the visitors strolled into the fourth round of Norway's NM Cup with a 7-1 walk at third-division minnows Tiller on Wednesday night.

After Gatt's end-line cutback was flicked on for his side's 35th-minute winner, the young American piled on a brace of his own. The teen speedster raced clear on a through ball to convert eight minutes before the break, and then repeated the feat eight minutes out of it.

Countryman Sean Cunningham also went the distance, ably holding down left back for the victors.

In other Norwegian Cup play, Hønefoss keeper Steve Clark made light work of a half dozen saves to backstop a 3-1 upset of Mikkel Diskerud's Stabæk. The US midfielder kept his compatriot on his toes by serving several dangerous restarts for the beaten visitors.

In the nearby SAS Liga, Brøndby were unable to make an early Clarence Goodson strike stand up as sudden midfielder Michael Parkhurst and FC Nordsjælland rallied for a 1-1 draw to clinch survival.

Goodson buried a corner-kick header in the 11th minute, only to have Ekstra Bladet Cup final hero Rawez Lawal level matters for the guests six minutes from time.

Chris Rolfe fired off a small bushel of right wing crosses to no avail during his 68 minutes of Aalborg BK's 2-1 home loss to regular side thorn SønderjyskE. The result means AaB, two places and two points above the trap door, will go to closing day at FC Copenhagen still fighting to stave off their first relegation in 30 years.
