Henry's finish against LA wins AT&T Goal of the Week

New York's Thierry Henry (left) is congratulated by his teammates after scoring against the LA Galaxy on Saturday night.

Thierry Henry might not have quite led the New York Red Bulls past the LA Galaxy last Saturday, but his goal at the Home Depot Center certainly didn’t go unnoticed this week.

The French striker’s fourth-minute finish against LA took the top honors for the AT&T Goal of the Week for Week 8, narrowly topping the game-winning header from Portland’s Mamadou “Futty” Danso against the Philadelphia Union last Friday.

A streaking Henry took a feed from midfielder Dane Richards roughly 10 yards off the goal line, skirted Galaxy goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts and coolly placed his fourth goal of the season into the back of the net. The goal gave New York an early lead they eventually relinquished to Landon Donovan and the Galaxy in the 1-1 draw, but it received 31.8 percent of the vote to take the top prize.

Danso’s header off a Jack Jewsbury free kick, meanwhile, lifted the Timbers to their fourth straight win at JELD-WEN Field this year, and earned 30.2 percent of the vote.
