American Exports: Dempsey can't prevent Liverpool rout

AMSTERDAM — Fulham ace Clint Dempsey returned from a minor injury on Monday night only to be served major insult along with his teammates in a 5-2 loss to rude guests Liverpool.

The Cottagers were down three by the 16th minute and never recovered, slipping to 10th in the Premier League table with the result.

Dempsey went close to scoring no less than four times during his full shift. His try from a corner kick was blocked off the line just past the half-hour and he later watched a pair of second-half efforts sail inches off of frame. The active US attacker also drew yellow on the edge of halftime for a midfield challenge.
