AMSTERDAM – Zak Whitbread marshaled the back as Norwich City sealed their return to the English Premier League with a 1-0 victory at Portsmouth on Monday night.
The American flashed an early header just wide, but Canada forward Simeon Jackson got the goal the Canaries needed five minutes out of intermission.
Whitbread & Co. hardly allowed the home side a whiff of goal as Norwich clinched second place in the Championship to reach the top flight for the first time since 2005.
One flight down in League One, Anton Peterlin watched on as Plymouth sealed their back-to-back relegation fate with a 3-1 home loss to Southampton.
Meanwhile, Allsvenskan action saw an uncharacteristically quiet full shift from Alejandro Bedoya in Örebro's 1-0 defeat at AIK.
