Timbers' Gleeson wins Save of the Week

Jake Gleeson has filled in for the injured Troy Perkins and Adin Brown

He didn’t get the win, but that didn’t mean Jake Gleeson’s efforts last weekend didn’t go unnoticed.

The Portland Timbers' backup goalkeeper earned nearly 40 percent of the vote for the MLS Save of the Week, narrowly enough to top Houston’s Tally Hall for the Week 2 honors.

Gleeson – who came on at the half during 2-0 Timbers road loss to Toronto FC after starter Adin Brown was subbed out with an injury – didn’t get much time to settle in. His award-winning save came in the 49th minute, when he dove to his right and steered aside a breakaway chance from TFC’s Maicon Santos.
