Chris Seitz went from Philadelphia to Seattle to Dallas all without leaving his living room on Wednesday.
In what was likely not the final twist in the crazy fallout of the Re-Entry Draft, the 23-year-old goalkeeper was dealt by the Sounders to FC Dallas for a fourth-round pick in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft. Seattle had plucked Seitz ninth overall in Wednesday’s Stage 2 of the Re-Entry Process.
Seitz spent this past season with the expansion Union, starting 22 games and posting a 1.80 goals-against average. But inconsistency plagued him toward the end of the campaign and he was benched in favor of Brad Knighton.
All told, Seitz went 5-12-6 between the posts for Peter Nowak’s squad and the first-year franchise elected not to pick up his option for 2011. Rumors have also circulated that Philadelphia are close to an agreement with Colombian ‘keeper Faryd Mondragón, making Seitz expendable and providing a short-term solution to the Union’s goalkeeping woes.
In Dallas, Seitz gets a new start and would appear to be the heir-apparent to incumbent Kevin Hartman. FC Dallas declined their option on former ‘keeper Dario Sala and are not likely to bring him back.
Seitz was originally selected by Real Salt Lake as the No. 3 pick in the 2007 MLS SuperDraft out of the University of Maryland. The San Luis Obispo, Calif., native made just seven starts and recorded a 1.86 goals-against average during three seasons in Salt Lake as the back-up to Nick Rimando before being traded to Philadelphia at the conclusion of last season.
