Mwanga improving, traveling to SJ

Union rookie Danny Mwanga has five goals so far this season.

CHESTER, Pa. – Philadelphia Union forward Danny Mwanga is on the mend following a shoulder injury the rookie suffered in last weekend's win over Chicago, the club said Tuesday.

Mwanga has officially been listed as questionable for his team’s match against the San Jose Earthquakes on Wednesday night. The Union have confirmed that he did travel with the team to the West Coast.

According to Philadelphia manager Peter Nowak, Mwanga suffered a slight shoulder separation after falling awkwardly in the first half of the Union’s 1-0 victory over the Fire.

After his X-rays came back negative, there is a chance he could play against the Quakes. However, with the team having the next 10 days off, Nowak may err on the side of caution and keep Mwanga out despite the impressive number of goals this year's No. 1 SuperDraft pick has been able to contribute so far this season.

"If he’s not ready, he’ll have to skip the match,” said Nowak on Saturday. "After the game, we’ll have 10 days until our next one, so we try to make it work for the team”

So far this season, Mwanga has seven goals and four assists in 18 matches played.
