Quakes' Cannon wins NAPA Save of the Week

San Jose's Joe Cannon is the winner of the NAPA Save of the Week.

San Jose veteran goalkeeper Joe Cannon has been awarded the NAPA Save of the Week on Thursday, honoring his diving stop on a right-footed shot by Wells Thompson in San Jose’s 1-0 win over Colorado last Saturday at Buck Shaw Stadium.

Cannon lunged to his right to deny the blast from Thompson, then corralled the rebound en route to the 70th shutout of his career. The Earthquakes used the win to vault into a tie for fifth place in the Western Conference.

Cannon has started all five games for the Quakes this season, posting two shutouts.

Cannon received 36 percent of the vote, just edging out Kansas City’s Jimmy Nielsen, who earned a nomination with a point-blank save on Houston’s Luis Landin in the Dynamo’s 3-0 win at Robertson Stadium.
