Chhetri bags a hat trick in first action for Kansas City

Sunil Chhetri, Kansas City Wizards

Striker Sunil Chhetri scored three second-half goals to give the Kansas City Wizards’ reserves a 5-0 victory against Evansville in St. Louis.

Chhetri scored off a diving header and finished two other chances. Graham Zusi and Mauro Fuzetti scored the other goals for the reserves.

“He’s a good finisher with both feet,” head coach Peter Vermes said. “He found places underneath and within the seams of the other team’s defense, which wound up being good opportunities to score. He finished them off really well.”

The reserves were in St. Louis because the first team was playing in the second leg of the Supporters Showdown against cross-state rivals A.C. St. Louis.

The Indian international signed with the Wizards last week, becoming the first Indian player in MLS history. He is expected to both challenge for a starting position and provide attacking depth in KC's exciting, revamped offense.
