'Soccer Matters With Glenn Davis' to premiere July 18

FOX Sports Houston has partnered with former professional soccer star and nationally recognized broadcaster Glenn Davis to produce an informative weekly magazine show that focuses on youth, amateur and pro soccer in Houston and around the world.

SOCCER MATTERS WITH GLENN DAVIS premieres on Saturday, July 18 at 9:00 AM CT on FOX Sports Houston with new episodes airing every Saturday and replayed throughout the week

The 30-minute program will cover the sport at all levels and will feature local, national and international topical soccer information. It will include highlights, interviews with the game's top newsmakers, and in-depth stories, ranging from Houston's youth leagues to the MLS and Houston Dynamo to globally recognized clubs like Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United.

"Soccer fans are thirsting for information and teaming with FOX Sports Houston will be the perfect combination for what I believe is truly important programming," said Davis, a former collegiate All-American who played professional soccer for six years in four different leagues. "Houston fans will find this show entertaining, thoughtful and informative.

"It will remind us all of the big picture of the global game of soccer through our connections locally on up to the biggest clubs and national teams in the world. It will push, prod and get one to think about their place in the global world of soccer. The game effects humanity around the globe more than any other sport. It's been embraced by so many people in America and has become a part of our culture. This show will remind us that we are connected globally to the beautiful game."

Davis is widely considered one of soccer's top broadcasters. He has called World Cup Finals for ESPN, the Olympics for NBC, and MLS games for FOX Sports Net regional affiliates and HD Net. He also hosts the "U.S. Youth Soccer Show" on FOX Soccer Channel, and the "Soccer Hour with Glenn Davis" radio show on 790 AM in Houston, in addition to writing a popular soccer column for the Houston Chronicle.

His tireless work developing and coaching youth leagues in the Houston area and creating exchange programs with youth clubs around the world have helped grow awareness of the sport in the United States. He recently received a Lifetime Achievement award from his alma mater David and Elkins College in West Virginia for his dedication and service to soccer.

"We're excited to join forces with a well-respected member of the soccer fraternity like Glenn Davis," said FOX Sports Houston Executive Producer Jeff Hallas. "His passion for the game, his connections within the soccer world, and his broadcast experience will make this a 'must see' program for soccer enthusiasts. He'll cover it all from the youth leagues to the international scene. We expect the program to make quite an impact on a very vibrant soccer community in Houston."
