Reserves: Wizards 3, FC Dallas 1

FRISCO, Texas - The Kansas City Wizards Reserves won their first match of the season, defeating the FC Dallas Reserves 3-1 tonight in a match played on the stadium field at Pizza Hut Park immediately following the Hoops dramatic 2-1 win against KC in the first team game. Ryan Pore, Jermain Hue, and Yura Movsisyan scored for the Wizards, while Mario Torres tallied the loan goal for the home side.

Despite the loss, the highlight for the FCD organization was the return to the playing field by veteran midfielder Richard Mulrooney, who entered the game in the 46th minute for his first competitive action since tearing his right ACL in a match with the first team on May 14, 2005 in San Jose.

Kansas City got on the board after 12 minutes, when Ryan Pore beat an offside trap and calmly put the ball past FCD goalkeeper Ray Burse.

The team traded possession for the next 15 minutes, and it was KC who increased their lead with a goal in the 31st. Lance Watson took the ball down the left side, and passed towards the center to Jermaine Hue. Hue took two steps forward and with the defense still back, ripped a shot from 25 yards into the left side of the net for the 2-0 advantage.

The Hoops made an adjustment to start the second half, moving midfielder Justin Moore to right back, shifting Michael Dello-Russo to center defense, and inserting midfielder Richard Mulrooney for Alex Yi.

Dallas cut into the lead in the 61 minute, with a well taken free kick from 25 yards out by Mario Torres. Torres curved his shot around the wall and hit the side net leaving KC keeper Will Hesmer no chance to stop it.

However, Kansas City reclaimed their two goal advantage only four minutes later, when forward Yura Movsisyan got around the right side and then lifted a ball over Burse. Defender Clarence Goodson reached the clear the ball but it had already crossed the line by the time he could get there.

The FCD Reserves will face the D.C. United Reserves on Sunday, April 30 in their first road test. The Kansas City Reserves play their second game on May 14, also against D.C. United on the road.
