Reserves: D.C. United 0, FC Dallas 0

D.C. United and FC Dallas had to settle for a scoreless draw Sunday morning.

Washington, DC - The D.C. United reserves played the visiting FC Dallas reserves to a 0-0 draw on Sunday morning, as the Black-and-Red saw their first Reserve Division action of 2006. Though FC Dallas out-shot United10-6, the visitors managed only long-range shots and never really tested goalkeeper Ryan McIntosh. United's forwards had a handful of decent opportunities to score, but were unable to find the back of the net.

While United's record stands at 0-0-1, FC Dallas moves to 0-2-1 on the season, having dropped two earlier decisions to Real Salt Lake and the Kansas City Wizards.

United controlled possession early in the match and saw the first good scoring chance in the 15th minute. From a throw-in Rod Dyachenko found Stephen deRoux, who wheeled to the endline and sent in a cross. Jamil Walker's header, however, was parried away by Dallas' Jeff Cassar.

Four minutes later, Dyachenko was sent behind the Dallas defense, but the bouncing ball betrayed him and found its way into the hands of Cassar.

A few Dallas shots from distance were easily corralled by McIntosh and the teams went into halftime scoreless.

The second half saw more evenly contested play, as the teams traded possession of the ball. Neither team was able to create a significant chance on goal, however, until late in the game. In the 80th minute, Dyachenko slotted a through ball to Walker, but Cassar was again equal to the task, coming off his line to meet the ball.

In the 86th minute, second half substitute Andy Metcalf collected the ball on the deep left side of the field and moved toward the endline. The University of Memphis product found second year player Matt Nickell at the top of the box, but his first time shot passed just over the bar.

Nickell's shot proved to be the last good chance of the morning, as both teams were forced to be content with a scoreless draw.

The United reserves are next in action on Sunday, May 14, when they take on the Kansas City Wizards at home. Kickoff is set for 10 a.m. at the United Training Fields.
