Pizza Hut Park prepares for inaugural concert

Pizza Hut Park is ready to host its first-ever concert.

FRISCO, Texas - Preparations are already underway at Pizza Hut Park as the stadium prepares for the first major concert in its short, nine-month history. On Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m., international pop super group RBD will invade Pizza Hut Park for the latest stop on their Nuestro Amor Tour, along with thousands of their biggest fans from throughout the region.

In addition to the regular seating capacity of Pizza Hut Park, 6,250 seats have been added on the field for this show. In order to properly accommodate all of the fans on the field, while also protecting the playing surface, crews on Thursday began lying down more than 11,100 pieces of "Terraflor" a state-of-the art turf protection. Approximately two-thirds of the Pizza Hut Park field will be covered by the 29.5 square inch pieces of Terraflor, with the South end of the pitch remaining off limits to all guests.

The interlocking pieces of Terraflor, which is manufactured in the United Kingdom and utilized at most sports/concert venues throughout the United States, were first laid on the stadium field on Thursday evening with the entire process taking nearly eight hours to complete.

The Hunt Sports Group owns and rents a total of 128,000 square feet of Terraflor, more than any other venue in the country.

Once the floor was down, the 6,250 folding chairs were ordered and organized across the field to create 14 separate "floor seating" sections. This process, along with that of individually numbering each section, row and seat, was started on Friday morning and took another eight hours to complete.

In order to get fans with tickets for floor seating down onto the field, seven sets of field stairs have been added from the Sideline and Midfield West seating. There will be no access to the floor seating from the East side of the stadium.

Immediately following the RBD show, crews will begin breaking down the floor seats and the Terraflor, so as to give the field as much time as possible to recover ahead of the next FC Dallas home game in 10 days time on Wednesday, May 10 against the Los Angeles Galaxy.

RBD is a six-member pop-rock group that was born out of the wildly successful Mexican novella Rebelde, a show that followed the lives of the six actors turned pop-stars. The band is currently touring in support of its most recent studio album, Nuestro Amor which was released last fall. The 33-show tour kicked off on March 18 at the Los Angeles Coliseum and will travel throughout the United States before wrapping up in Bakersfield, Calif. on July 28.

Following Saturday night's inaugural show, Pizza Hut Park will continue to host a series of concerts through the year with George Strait (May 26) and Rascal Flatts (June 16) already on the stadium's concert lineup.
