Lalas' return to the West Coast also marks a return to working for AEG, which owns the Galaxy. He would replace former Galaxy president and general manager Doug Hamilton, who died of a heart attack on March 9 on a flight home from the Galaxy's CONCACAF Champions' Cup match in Costa Rica.


A week ago, the Galaxy named Tom Payne assistant general manager, leaving the top spot open.


Lalas, with his return to the Galaxy, will head a team that he helped lead to the MLS Cup championship in 2002.
