D.C. United obtain Burch from Columbus

Marc Burch won a national championship at the college level with Maryland.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - D.C. United announced today the team has acquired Marc Burch from the Columbus Crew in exchange for the club's 2008 3rd round natural Supplemental Draft pick. The six-foot, two-inch Burch saw time in seven games (five starts) for the Crew last year after being acquired from Los Angeles. The forward made three appearances with the Galaxy in 2006 after being selected in the second round of the 2006 MLS SuperDraft.

"We are pleased to have Marc at D.C. United," said United Technical Director Dave Kasper. "We believe that his versatility will enable him to contribute to the team and look forward to his return to the area."

Following three years at the University of Evansville (2002-2004), Burch transferred to the University of Maryland and helped the team to the 2005 NCAA Championship. He scored the game-winning goal in the College Cup final against New Mexico, a 1-0 victory. While at Evansville, he scored seven goals and added 22 assists. He was a three-time All-MVC pick and a first team NSCAA All-Midwest selection as a sophomore. A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, he was named the Gatorade National High School Player of the Year in 2001.
