D.C. United to host Budweiser Hispanic Heritage Night

WASHINGTON, D.C. - D.C. United announced today details of Budweiser Hispanic Heritage Night as part of the club's game versus Chivas USA on Saturday, April 8th at RFK Stadium. Supporting sponsors of Budweiser Hispanic Heritage Night include Great American, Miller and Long, Metro, East West Mortgage and Verizon Wireless. Media sponsors include Telemundo, El Zol and El Tiempo Latino. Kick-off for the match is set for 4:00 p.m. for a nationwide viewing audience on espn2. "As we celebrate our tenth anniversary season, D.C. United is proud of the deep and rich history of support developed within the local Latin American community," said United Sr. Vice President Stephen Zack. "With the help of Budweiser and through events such as Hispanic Heritage Night, the club is honored to pay tribute to our Hispanic fans and the community as a whole."


The festivities kick-off on Saturday, April 8th, prior to United's match with Chivas USA, a club featuring Mexicans stars Francisco Palencia, Claudio Suarez, Ramon Ramirez and Juan Pablo Garcia. Game-day activities will feature live music, traditional Latin cuisine, interactive games and a ceremony at halftime honoring local community leaders. In addition, United will make a $1000 donation to the U. S. Salvadoran Chamber of Commerce scholarship fund to further the advancement of education of Hispanic students.


Additionally, play will continue in the second round of the inaugural D.C. United Super Cup, a pre-game soccer tournament featuring elite Hispanic adult teams from local leagues. Saturday's tournament schedule will begin at 9:00 a.m. at the RFK Stadium training fields. The event boasts a cash prize of $4,000 for the Cup winner, $1,500 for runner-up, $1,000 for 3rd place and $500 for the 4th place finisher. Additional prizes include adidas uniforms for the top four finishers and automatic bids for the top two teams to play in the 2006 Copa TACA tournament.


The pre-game fiesta will commence at 2:00 p.m. on Lot 8 of RFK Stadium and will remain open until kick-off. The festivities are open to the general public and will feature live music by local Mexican bands Sangre Joven and Mariachi Sin Fronteras.
