MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER QUOTE SHEET

SATURDAY, JUNE 25, 2005 - KANSAS CITY WIZARDS 3, CHIVAS USA 0
KANSAS CITY WIZARDS HEAD COACH BOB GANSLER

On whether their was frustration in the first half:
"You always have to look at the quality of your performance. If you are crap then you have to face that, but there was nothing to be said on the defensive end, I thought we were solid there. On the other side we felt we could play a little quicker and for sure we wanted to up the pace in the second half."

On the second half:
"We knew we were going to bring fresh bodies in the second half. Jose (Burciaga) was sick the last couple days so we had worked with Jack (Jewsbury) there to give us very aggressive wing play from both sides. It was a matter of 'let's get the first goal early' and that reduces their level of confidence. We felt we were in charge in the first half, but we didn't get the exclamation marks, the goals."

On the choice to sit Davy Arnaud:
"He hasn't been playing well and it's not because he wasn't trying. Davy is the best of young athletes, what he was doing was trying too hard. It is trite, but I do think it's true. It is not those who start it, it is quite often those who finish it. Obviously it didn't take him long to make his mark out there."

KANSAS CITY WIZARDS DEFENDER JIMMY CONRAD

On the game:
"I thought we came out with the right attitude and limited their chances, we just couldn't put anything on frame. In the second half I came out to help the forwards and saved the day, I showed them it was OK to score. Then Davy (Arnaud) scored a great goal and Sasha (Victorine) capped it off. It was a great effort by everybody. We got the shutout and a good solid which is what we needed, especially heading into Wednesday night (June 29 vs. Columbus)."

On his goal:
"When Zavagnin first played the ball, the guy is standing, then he tries to run past me as the ball is halfway in the air. Then Sasha heads it down and I just hoped for the best and it went in."

KANSAS CITY WIZARDS FORWARD DAVY ARNAUD

On his goal:
"I didn't really see it. I thought it was going to hit the post. When I hit it, I was going away and was behind somebody, so I didn't see it until it was in the back of the net so I assumed it hit the post. My right foot is my stronger foot, but the defender came in pretty hard. Preki always give me a hard time, I had the same shot in the first game of the season and I didn't cut it back. Preki told me if I had cut it back, the defender would have hit the corner flag. With the defender coming so hard this time, I tried to cut it back and just hit it with my left foot."

On not starting for the first time since 2003:
"I knew early in the week that I probably might not start. If you ask any anybody, everybody wants to start every game. But it was a situation where we have gone five games and have scored five or six goals. I think (coach) thought he needed to change some stuff up a little bit. It's the way it goes. When I got the chance to come it, I just wanted to bring some energy and help us out."

CHIVAS USA HEAD COACH HANS WESTERHOF

On the game:
"First of all, I think it was fair. They play better than us. It's a team who has played five years together with a coach who has been here for five years. This is what we are missing. There is a lot of organization with them. We made a lot of mistakes. Most of the goals were mistakes. They are possible to avoid and when we succeed in that, things will go better."

On the team's need to work on set pieces:
"I don't know what happened. I can't understand it. In the first minute of the second half you get a goal against you, mentally you have to be tough. We have to work on that. We have some players who have the experience to do that. I still am hopeful. I saw a lot of good things."

On his scuffle with Ryan Suarez:
"Ryan thinks different than we do. We wanted the last line to go more in front, and he thinks otherwise. He made bad decisions in the game and we decided to change."

On what was said on the sideline:
"He was angry. I can't mention it. It's not good."

CHIVAS USA FORWARD MATT TAYLOR

On the game:
"We got opened up in the second half. We gave up some set-piece goals. Its been a while since we've done that, since the first couple games, but it came to hurt us again. I know we gave up two off of the set piece. I don't know if it's organization or what it was, but they really killed us."

On the Kansas City defense:
"They are a good defensive team. We just couldn't really string any passes together. They pressure pretty well, but in the end it was us who weren't able to create, not them defending us super well or super hard. Credit them, they've got great defensive players, good defensive team."

On his feelings of coming back to Kansas City:
"It's fun to play here, it's fun to play against your old teammates, but it's no different than any other game. You approach it with the same attitude, the same mentality. You want to win every game and it's terrible to come out here and lose."

On the Chivas fans in Kansas City:
"They come out of the woodwork when we come into town. That type of support is unbelieveable."

CHIVAS USA DEFENDER ESTEBAN ARIAS

On the game:
"I felt fine. I felt fine the first 70 minutes and then I started to get a little tired. We started to get a little more up and down possession and I just ran out of gas a little bit. We made some mistakes, mentally. We'll try to recuperate and go from there."

On playing in midfield rather than defense:
"You kind of get up and down more. It's obviously a lot faster. You have to think quicker and play quicker. It's something I've done in college so its not too bad."
