Week's top goal: K.C.'s Jewsbury

Kansas City Wizards midfielder Jack Jewsbury's 25-yard blast in a 2-2 against the Los Angeles Galaxy last Saturday captured Sierra Mist Goal of the Week honors for the week ending July 25 (Week 17). Jewsbury's second goal of the season led his team to a hard-fought tie in a top-of-the-table clash in one of the most exciting MLS matches of the year.

The Goal of the Week winner is determined from a selection of finalists through a fan vote conducted on the Sierra Mist Goal of the Week section of Major League Soccer's official web site: www.MLSnet.com

Jewsbury's goal (44 percent) was voted the most spectacular strike of the week, easily beating out Dallas Burn forward Eddie Johnson's (20 percent) redirection volley and Revolution midfielder Jose Cancela's (16 percent) left-footed shot off the inside of the right post. The Los Angeles Galaxy's Tyrone Marshall and Pat Noonan of New England also received votes for their strikes.

Just two minutes after taking a 1-0 advantage, the Wizards doubled their lead through a long-range effort from Jewsbury. A cross from Kansas City teammate Josh Wolff on the left wasn't dealt with well by Galaxy goalkeeper Kevin Hartman, and a quick passing movement between the Wizards' Davy Arnaud and Chris Klein found Jewsbury open well outside the area. The second-year player sent a low driven blast from 25 yards out through traffic and past Hartman, who dove in vain to his right.

Streaming video highlights and goals from MLS games are available for viewing every weekend on MLSnet.com just hours after the conclusion of the final match of the weekend. The Sierra Mist Goal of the Week winner is announced the following Wednesday.

At the end of the regular season, each of the 29 Goal of the Week winners selected throughout the season will be featured in voting for the Sierra Mist MLS Goal of the Year, an award presented annually to the author of the season's most spectacular scoring play. The Sierra Mist Goal of the Year award will be presented at the annual Gala Awards ceremony in the days leading up to MLS Cup 2004.
