RSL to air Saturday's Colorado Rapids game on KJZZ

SALT LAKE CITY - Real Salt Lake today announced that Saturday's, Oct. 1 game against the Colorado Rapids at 7:00 p.m. MT previously scheduled to air on KSL 5 TV has been pre-empted by the LDS Church's 175th Semiannual General Conference and Brigham Young University football, and will now air live on KJZZ-TV with Bill Riley calling the play-by-play and a color commentator yet to be determined.


KJZZ-TV Channel 14 began transmitting as an independent television station on April 14, 1989. In 1993, the station was purchased and changed the call letters to KJZZ, which broadcast from its facilities located in the Salt Lake International Center. KJZZ has approximately 60 translator stations that relay the signal to viewers in Utah, Wyoming, Idaho and Nevada. KJZZ is the flagship of the NBA's Utah Jazz and the broadcast partners for University of Utah athletic events.


KREIS HAVING SURGERY IN LA WITH MANDELBAUM: RSL captain and FW Jason Kreis, Major League Soccer's All-Time Leading Scorer and the first and only player in League history to attain the 100-goal threshold, was placed on the injury reserve list due to a partial tear of his left knee's Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) on Sept. 14. Kreis met with Dr. Bert Mandelbaum on Tuesday, and is scheduled to have surgery today to repair his left ACL. Dr. Mandelbaum is a world-renowned surgeon based in Los Angeles who has operated on a who's who of professional male and female U.S. soccer players, including Kreis' RSL teammate, Clint Mathis and U.S. Men's National Team standouts Chris Klein, Conor Casey and Joe-Max Moore, among others.


ADU & BESAGNO TO PERFORM POST-GAME AUTOGRAPH SESSION ON OCT. 5: RSL fans who purchase tickets ($15 for corner flag, $21 for premier east and $27 for VIP west) to bring a group of 20 to the Wednesday, Oct. 5 game against D.C. United and a group of 20 to "Fan Appreciation Night" against Rocky Mountain rival Colorado Rapids on Wednesday, Oct. 12 will receive 20 special invitations for a post-game autograph session featuring D.C. United FW Freddy Adu and RSL MF Nikolas Besagno at the south end of the field at Rice-Eccles Stadium on Wednesday, Oct. 5. ROUND THREE OF ROCKY MOUNTAIN CUP TAKES PLACE ON SATURDAY: Real Salt Lake (5-19-4, 19 pts., 5th West) continues its preparation for its road game against Rocky Mountain rival Colorado Rapids (11-13-4, 31 pts., 4th East) on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 7:30 p.m. MT. RSL heads into the match once again in search of its first road and grass wins, with the inaugural edition of the Rocky Mountain Cup series tied 1-1. Colorado leads on aggregate goals 2-1, with each team notching wins at home. The series ends with Real Salt Lake's final home game of the 2005 season on Wednesday, October 12, an event billed as Fan Appreciation Night at Rice-Eccles Stadium.


FINAL EASTERN CONFERENCE FOE COMING TO RICE-ECCLES STADIUM: RSL has one remaining game against an Eastern Conference team, a daunting task as Real welcomes 2004 MLS Cup Champion D.C. United on Wednesday, October 5 at Rice-Eccles Stadium at 7:30 p.m. MT. This season, RSL has tallied a 0-9-2 record against Eastern Conference teams, with its most recent loss coming at home against the Columbus Crew on Saturday. RSL's first and only meeting against D.C. this season ended in a 5-1 loss on Aug. 31 at Washington's RFK Stadium. Newcomer FW Melvin Tarley made his MLS debut and notched his first career MLS goal, as MF Andy Williams played the ball inside the box for the Liberian native, who took a touch around an oncoming D.C. United goalkeeper Nick Rimando and put it easily into the back of an open net in the 51st minute.
