Reserves: Earthquakes 2, Chivas USA 1

The San Jose Earthquakes Reserves (5-4-2, 17 pts.) defeated the Chivas USA Reserves (1-8-0, 3 pts.) 2-1 today on Field 2 of The Home Depot Center.

First-half goals by Chris Wondolowski and Julian Nash secured victory for the visitors, while Héctor Cuadros pulled one back for Chivas USA with a 91st-minute free kick goal.

San Jose opened the scoring in the 17th minute, forward Orlando Ramírez taking a corner kick and midfielder Chris Wondolowski pouncing on a loose ball in the penalty area to fire past Chivas USA keeper Javier Barragán.

The Earthquakes would extend their lead 11 minutes later, Wondolowski recovering a misplayed ball by the Chivas USA defense and sending a through ball to forward Julian Nash, who beat Barragán one-on-one from close range.

Chivas USA would find the back of the net in the dying seconds of extra time. Following Ian Russell's foul on Matt Taylor just outside the penalty area, midfielder Héctor Cuadros stepped up to fire a bending shot past substitute goalkeeper Robbie Fulton.

With the result, San Jose improves to 5-4-2 to remain within the top five of the inaugural Reserve Division standings, while Chivas USA falls to 1-8-0 to remain in the final spot of the 12-team table.
