Quakes to walk for cancer Oct. 1

The Quakes hope you join them to 'Light the Night'.

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Earthquakes are proud to announce their participation in The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's 'Light The Night' walk on Oct. 1 at the Plaza de Cesar Chavez in downtown San Jose. The Earthquakes front office and official fan group, Club Quake, will be walking in the event that raises awareness and funds for blood-related cancers.


The 'Light The Night' walk registration begins at 5 p.m. PT, with the walk starting at 7 p.m PT. Participants in the nationwide evening walk who contribute at least $25 walk the 2.5-mile loop carrying illuminated balloons to celebrate and commemorate lives touched by cancer. All funds raised through the 'Light The Night' walk support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's mission to cure Leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, as well as improving the quality of life for patients and their families.


Children, adults and seniors are all encouraged to participate in the event. People interested in walking with the San Jose Earthquakes at 'Light the Night' can register online at www.lightthenight.org. Once there, select the Cesar Chavez Plaza walk and select the San Jose Earthquakes as your walk team.


The Earthquakes will also continue to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society with another silent auction at Spartan Stadium on Sept. 25, when the Earthquakes take on the Los Angeles Galaxy at 7 p.m. PT. The retro NASL Earthquakes jerseys from the Aug. 21 game against the Dallas Burn of Todd Dunivant, Troy Dayak, Richard Mulrooney and Pat Onstad along with a team-autographed jersey will be auctioned off, with all proceeds going to LLS.
