MetroStars depart for Ecuador

The MetroStars will depart for Ecuador on Wednesday, where they will continue preseason training in preparation for the 2005 MLS season. While in South America, the Metros will face a pair of club teams in scrimmages, visiting Deportivo Quevedo on Thursday and Emelec of Guayaquil on March 1.


Fifteen MetroStars players will travel together from the New York area Tuesday and will arrive in Quevedo in the evening. Brazilian Gilberto and recently acquired French legend Youri Djorkaeff are expected to join the club in the early part of next week. MetroStars.com will be 'On Location' during the jaunt into the Latin soccer world. Check back for regular updates on the happenings of the MetroStars while they are south of the equator.


The following players are expected to participate in the training camp in Ecuador:

Goalkeepers: Zach Wells, Jonny Walker


Defenders: Jeff Agoos, Jeff Parke, Tim Regan, Tim Ward, Chris Leitch, Jason Hernandez, Carlos Mendez (trialist)


Midfielders: Michael Bradley, Amado Guevara, Mark Lisi, Chris Corcoran, Gilberto, Youri Djorkaeff


Forwards: John Wolyniec, Sergio Galvan Rey
