L.A. Galaxy announce 2005 regular season schedule

Complete 2005 Galaxy schedule

CARSON, CA - The Los Angeles Galaxy will officially kick off the 2005 MLS regular season on the road against the Columbus Crew on April 2, according to the schedule released today by Major League Soccer. One week later, they will open their third season at The Home Depot Center on Saturday, April 9, when the club hosts MLS expansion side Real Salt Lake.
"We are very pleased with our schedule as a whole and especially with our slate of games at The Home Depot Center for the 2005 campaign," said Los Angeles Galaxy President and General Manager Doug Hamilton. "Our fans will have plenty of exciting games to watch when they come out and join the Galaxy for our tenth season celebration."
Overall, the Galaxy's home regular schedule features fourteen weekend dates (eleven Saturdays and three Sundays). The two remaining home games will be played on Monday (one game - the annual Fourth of July Extravaganza) and Wednesday (one game). The club's longest extended stay at The Home Depot Center will bridge the months of April and May, with four consecutive home games to be played in Carson after a return home from their season opener in Columbus.
Los Angeles will contest a total of 20 games against Western Conference opponents - meaning that the Galaxy will face CD Chivas USA, the Colorado Rapids, FC Dallas, Real Salt Lake and the San Jose Earthquakes four times apiece (twice at home, twice away). As for the clubs in the Eastern Conference, the Galaxy will meet each of them for two games, one at home and the other on the road for a total of 32.
The home opener between the Galaxy and Real Salt Lake on April 9 will be the first ever between the clubs and will feature a post-game fireworks show. It will also mark L.A.'s first game against an expansion team since a 1-0 victory against the Chicago Fire on September 27, 1998, at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.
Another highlight to the Galaxy's home schedule will be the inaugural edition of the Southern California Clásico between the Galaxy and Chivas USA on April 23. Tickets for the Galaxy's first two matches are presently available only to customers purchasing season seat plans or special celebration packages through the Galaxy ticket office. Field side seats are also on sale for these games through the ticket office at 1-877-3GALAXY. Individual tickets to all other Galaxy home games will be going on sale through TicketMaster on Saturday, February 26.
Back-to-back home games will pit the Galaxy against Dallas on April 30 and Colorado on May 8 to conclude the homestand. Returning to the road the following week, the club visits Real Salt Lake at Rice-Eccles Stadium. Following that game, Los Angeles is slated to play four of its next five matches at home and will then embark on a four-game Western Conference road swing beginning June 15.
July's calendar combines exciting matches in Carson (The Fourth of July Extravaganza against New England and visits from defending MLS Cup Champions D.C. United and Chivas) with two trips to the East Coast. The month will be capped-off by the 2005 Sierra Mist MLS All-Star Game on July 30, to be played at a venue to be announced. By this time, the Galaxy will have already played 20 of their 32 regular season games.
After ending the month of July on the road at New England, the Galaxy will play each of their four games in August away from home as well, with visits to Colorado, Chicago, D.C. and San Jose. Six of the club's final eight games will be played in Carson, including all three during the season's final month, one of which will be a Chivas home game. Additionally, for the first time since 1998, the Galaxy will conclude the regular season at home, wrapping up against the Quakes on October 15.
The national and local television schedules for 2005 Galaxy games are being finalized and will be released at a later date. At that time, start times for all games will also be announced.
The Los Angeles Galaxy are pleased to once again offer fans "The Best Seats in the House" at The Home Depot Center. For the Galaxy's first two home games in 2005, the club will be selling 100 seats along one touchline on a first-come, first-served basis. Each ticket costs $150 and includes a Decade of Stars t-shirt and the actual chair the fan sits in.
