The first score of the match went to Colorado as Alain Nkong netted the goal. Dan Gargan sent a cross to the top of the Dallas goal box where Nkong finished a run and deposited the ball past Scott Garlick for the 1-0 lead.

The score stayed that way until Abe Thompson found Carey Talley along the right sideline. In the 89th minute, Colorado midfielder Terry Cooke headed a ball that ended up to be the game winner for FC Dallas. Cooke tried to clear a swinging corner kick by Richard Mulrooney away from the Rapids goal, but instead headed the ball past Cannon and into the back of the net.
