FC Dallas defeats SMU 2-1 in final preseason game

DALLAS - FC Dallas finished its preseason games (6-2-3) with a 2-1 victory over SMU at Westcott Field on Tuesday evening.

FC Dallas dominated for most of the game, controlling the possession and creating good scoring opportunities, but it would be SMU that would opened the scoring in the 15th minute. One of SMU midfielders made a quick through pass to his teammate who managed to get a shot past FC Dallas goalkeeper Chris Gomez.

FC Dallas would respond 6 minutes later. Aaron Pitchkolan made a nice run through the middle leaving Arturo Alvarez one on one with a defender. Alvarez made a nice cut to the inside getting fouled by the defender inside the box. Ramón Nuñez took the penalty kick and found the back of the left top side of the net to tie the game.

In the 35th minute FC Dallas would strike again. Aaron Pitchkolan would contribute again by making a nice long cross from the right to Drew Moor who slid to tap in the ball to the back of the net before it hit the ground to give FC Dallas the lead.

For the second half it was more of the same as FC Dallas controlled the match through ball possession. The best chance of the second half came in the 36th minute when again Aaron Pitchkolan sent one to the center of the box that Melvin Turley could not finish.

Assistant Coach Steve Morrow on the scrimmage: "I think we passed the ball very well at times and created a lot of good chances that we should've finished. It gave us the chance to give playing time to most of the guys that didn't play against Colorado and we are definitely ready to go on Saturday".

FC Dallas Lineup - Gomez, Gbandi, Jolley, Yi, Salyer, Moor, Pitchkolan, Quill (Torres '46), Nuñez, Alvarez (Pulido '65), Thompson (Turley '46).
