On Monday, just five days before their season opener vs. Real Salt Lake, some of the MetroStars players stepped away from training to sit down with the Garfield Vistula Youth Soccer Club at La Mezzaluna Trattoria in Garfield, N.J.
E&S Food Inc. hosted a pizza party at the local restaurant for Garfield Vistula SC and MetroStars players. The young players took part in the event as the winners of a contest sponsored by E&S Food Inc., last fall.
The young players were thrilled with the opportunity to hang out with professionals Chris Corcoran, Chris Leitch, Tim Regan and John Wolyniec of the MetroStars.
"It's cool to sit down and eat our favorite food with our favorite MetroStars players," said one GVSC player. "They are really cool. It's cool to learn that they are a lot like us. They listen to the same music and like doing a lot of the same things that we do."
While the Garfield players enjoyed meeting the professionals, the MetroStars were just excited to have an excuse to eat pizza. Most excited at the pizza prospects was first-year professional Corcoran. At last count, the rookie had completely consumed no fewer than 5 slices of pepperoni pizza (crusts included), while Settimo Guttilla, the hungry President of E&S Food, was forced to wrestle the last slice out of the defender's hands.
