Earthquakes to broadcast two key late-season matches against Chivas USA and the Los Angeles Galaxy on Telemundo-KSTS 48

SAN JOSE - The San Jose Earthquakes announced today that the team has reached an agreement with Telemundo/KSTS-TV 48 to broadcast two late-season Quakes matches on the station. Telemundo will air live the Quakes games on Saturday, September 17 against Club Deportivo Chivas USA and Saturday, October 15. Both games will kick off at 7:00 p.m. PT at The Home Depot Center.

"We are very excited about our new partnership with Telemundo," said Earthquakes Interim President and General Manager Kate McAllister. "We have always had a great relationship with Telemundo and we have strengthened it even more with this agreement. One of our ongoing goals is to increase our connection to the local Hispanic community. We feel that these broadcasts, along with our Spanish language radio broadcasts, enhance that connection."

The agreement marks the first time in Earthquakes history that the team's matches will be broadcast by a local affiliate in Spanish. The Earthquakes will also have a bigger presence on the weekly sports show, "Telemundo Deportivo" and will be represented at the "Living Well" event, presented by Telemundo 48 and NBC-11 at the San Jose Convention Center September 24-25.

"We are happy about our new agreement with the Earthquakes. This strengthens our relationship with the Earthquakes. Now, for the first time ever, in September and October, Telemundo will broadcast two Earthquakes games in Spanish to the Bay Area Hispanic community," said Eduardo Dominguez, VP/General Manager KSTS Telemundo.

The Earthquakes Spanish language radio play-by-play announcer Carlos Cesar Rivera will handle the same duties for the two Telemundo broadcasts. In his broadcasting career, Rivera has also called games for the San Francisco 49ers, Oakland Raiders, Oakland A's, San Francisco Giants and San Francisco Bay Blackhawks.

Diaz has worked at Telemundo since 1994 and has been the sports director at the station since 1996. At Telemundo, he has helped create the Emmy-nominated weekly sports show, "Telemundo Deportivo" and the popular segment "Atleta de la Semana". The Cal-State Northridge graduate covered the 2001 and 2003 MLS Cups, while also serving as the field reporter for a number of international soccer matches in the Bay Area, including the United States - China game in 2001.
