D.C. United host sixth annual Armed Forces Appreciation Day

WASHINGTON, D.C. - D.C. United will pay tribute to the Armed Forces by hosting the team's Sixth Annual Armed Forces Appreciation Day on Saturday, June 18. The event is scheduled in conjunction with United's match against the New England Revolution and will honor all military personnel, who continue to selflessly serve and protect our country, and their families. Kick-off for the game, scheduled for television broadcast on Comcast SportsNet, is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.

"It is a privilege and an honor for D.C. United to host members of the armed forces and their families each season," said Stephen Zack, Senior Vice President of D.C. United. "Through a host of planned activities and special events, we will honor service members while raising funds for local USO efforts."

The event will showcase aspects of the Armed Forces community as a part of Soccer Celebration held in Lot 8 of RFK Stadium prior to the match. The festival begins at 5:30 p.m. and will include free giveaways and live music presented by Z104. A free Armed Forces t-shirt will be given to the first 5,000 fans over 18 years of age.

Additional activities saluting area military personnel are scheduled before kick-off and at half time. The Sea Chanters of the U.S. Navy Band will perform the National Anthem, to be followed by a flyover of four F-16's from the 121st Fighter Squadron, 113th Wing, DC Air National Guard, Andrews AFB. Pre-game activities will conclude with the presentation of the match ball and ceremonial first kick by Brigadier General Errol Schwartz, DC Army National Guard. Half time activities will feature the Coast Guard Drill Team and a check presentation to the USO.

Members of the Armed Forces who purchase tickets to this match will receive Premium-level tickets at a discounted price of $13, a savings of $11 off the normal price of $24. In addition, D.C. United will donate a portion of the proceeds to the USO of Metropolitan Washington.
