The Clean Sheet: A New York minute

Rusty Pierce

it is a reality show about a group of dorks getting paired up with a group of babes and the clips of it looked brilliant.

  • So did you see that RSL-Galaxy game last weekend? It was amazing. Los Angeles honestly should have won by a touchdown at the very least, yet their inability to convert some pretty simple chances (Pete Vagenas' miss is legendary) let Real hang around just long enough for a wonderful touch of class from Jason Kreis to provide a huge win for the MLS newbies. The Galaxy players were pretty ticked off after the game, and rightfully so. I know the Galaxy usually can't beat a U-12 girls team on the road, but this was really bad.

  • Speaking of the Galaxy, I'm keeping an eye on two players right now: Jovan Kirovski and Kevin Hartman. I'm not sure L.A. doesn't need a true finisher to really be an elite club, and the goalkeeping position has looked a little clunky as of late.

  • Major bummer about Shaun Wright-Phillips pulling out of the Eng-er-land squad for the U.S. tour. Claudio Reyna's teammate at Man City is one of the most electrifying players to watch today.

  • Speaking of major bummers, a get well soon to both San Jose's Troy Dayak and FC Dallas' Richard Mulrooney. Both players will miss the rest of the season due to injury. To this day, Dayak's post-red card display last year is one of the greatest moments in MLS history, and Mulrooney's injury will mean my Hoops are gonna have to work a lot harder en route to their inevitable championship.

  • Back to Dayak's spot for a second, see where Alexi Lalas played 36 minutes for the Quakes reserves? While the Quakes have told the media that they may fill Dayak's spot through a trade, is there a chance Alexi himself will put down the guitar, step out of the front office and back onto the field? "Stranger things have happened," he was quoted as saying ...

  • CBS had their big presentation Wednesday and went on and on about how they are getting younger and younger viewers, then went on to close the show by introducing a musical act which completely reflected their movement to attract younger eyeballs: Aretha Franklin. Huh? Yeah, exactly. By the way, I'm not going to say Aretha looked gigantic, but I think I just found a plot of land here in NYC big enough for the new MetroStars stadium project, if you know what I mean.

  • So what exactly is the deal with Jaime Moreno and Freddy Adu, anyway?

  • Out here in NYC, there is something in the New York Post called Page Six, a snarky, must-read gossip column in which the famous are often none too happy to read their names, as the column loves to catch stars not at their best. It's so fun to read, that I'm gonna write a Page Six item right here, as this actually happened the other night: Just wondering, which husband of a former Friends star stiffed the poor guy working for tips in the Four Seasons Hotel bathroom the other night, pulling out his cell phone and telling the attendant "I'll get you in a second," before walking out into the night, never to return? Worry not TCS faithful, your old pal Tino -- who makes slightly less than this actor -- coughed up for the both of us.GRAB A COLD BUD (OR AQUAFINA) AND PUT YER FEET UP:
    WHAT I'LL BE WATCHING:

Saturday - REVS at METROS (4 p.m. ET on The Deuce): The Metros are winless at home and haven't beaten a good team yet this season anywhere. Saturday afternoon they play the high-flying Revs at The Swamp. Translation: They're dead.

  • Saturday - WIZARDS at UNITED (7:30 p.m. ET on Fox Soccer Channel): Oh my god, the Kansas City Wizards have become Loyola Marymount circa 15 years ago. A Bob Gansler team scoring seven goals in two matches? That's like this column actually being funny for once.

Sunday - DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES SEASON FINALE (9 p.m. ET on ABC): Oh, shut up -- you know you watch it, too.
