Chivas USA to face Club América on March 23 in historic cross-border 'clásico'

CARSON, Calif. - Club Deportivo Chivas USA and Club América, Chivas' eternal rival, will face off next Wednesday, March 23 in the border city of Ciudad Juárez, Mexico in the first-ever 'cross-border' edition of Chivas vs. América, the 'clásico' of Mexican soccer.

Key players from both teams will be on hand for this historic first match between Chivas' Major League Soccer franchise and its archrival from Mexico City. The action kicks off at 8:00 p.m. CT (local time) in Juárez' Estadio Olímpico Benito Juárez. The highly anticipated showdown comes just ten days after Chivas Guadalajara's thrilling, come-from-behind 3-3 draw with América yesterday at Mexico City's Estadio Azteca.

"With this historic game, we maintain our strategy of facing the best opponents available during preseason," said Whit Haskel, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Club Deportivo Chivas USA. "This game, as well as the 'Copa Fundación Chivas de Corazón' versus Osasuna on March 26 at The Home Depot Center, will allow us to be in the best shape possible for our inaugural game on April 2 against D.C. United."

The gates of the Estadio Olímpico Benito Juárez will open at 6:00 p.m. on gameday. Tickets start at 250 pesos (25$US) and will be available in the ticket booths of the stadium, which open at 2:00 p.m. the same day. For advance tickets, visit 'Sounds' record stores in Ciudad Juárez or 'All That Music' in El Paso, Texas.

Further details on Chivas USA's travel itinerary for this marquee matchup will be announced at a later date.
