Burn to hold silent auction for Sobieski

DALLAS - The Dallas Burn will hold a silent auction at the Cotton Bowl during their match vs. DC United this Saturday, June 26 to raise funds for goalkeeper coach Krys Sobieski. Sobieski was diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease earlier this year and has returned to Poland where he is currently undergoing treatment.

The auction will take place on the Gate 2 side of the Cotton Bowl and will run throughout Saturday's match. Among the items that will be available for bidding include a US National Team jersey autographed by the team that defeated Grenada last weekend, a Freddy Adu autographed soccer ball as well as autographed items from other MLS teams. In addition to the silent auction, Genesis Soccer Club, where Sobieski is a coach, has set up a bank account for donations. The team raised over $2,000 at a raffle last weekend. Donations may be made to the following address:

Genesis Soccer Club Community Credit Union
Krys Sobieski Medical Fund
720 East Arapaho
Richardson, TX 75081
Attention: Matt Howard

The Burn also announced that while Sobieski is undergoing treatment in Poland, Jan Van Beveren has been named the interim goalkeeper coach. Van Beveren has a storied playing career with the Holland National Team, PSV as well as locally with the Dallas Sidekicks.

"I would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers and everything they are doing for me," said Sobieski. "The treatments seem to be working and I'm experiencing much less pain. I'm thinking about the guys a lot and can't wait to get back out there with them. I know Jan very well and have no doubt that he will do a great job with the goalkeepers in my absence."
