Barrett, John contribute for U.S. U-20s

Fire forward Chad Barrett and midfielder Will John both played an integral part in helping the United States under-20 men's national team capture a surprising 2-1 victory over their counterparts from Argentina in the opening match of the Suwon International Youth Football Tournament Tuesday at Suwon World Cup Stadium in Suwon, South Korea.

Both new members of the "Men in Red" earned a starting nod from U-20 head coach Sigi Schmid. The new professional teammates linked up to equalize the match in the 18th minute when Barrett knocked in a John corner kick to level the score at 1-1 in a game that was threatening to get away from the American side.

John logged 57 minutes in the contest, while Barrett was replaced in the 74th minute by Kamani Hill, whose goal one minute into second half injury time gave the U.S. the improbable victory.

Barrett, John and the rest of the U-20s will return to action in the tournament Thursday when they take on host South Korea at Suwon World Cup Stadium at 4 a.m. CT (7 p.m. local time).
