The 6-foot-6 defender began his career with Fulham in 1999, playing seven seasons with the London club and helping them win promotion to the Premier League in 2001. In 2007 he left the club to join Aston Villa for the next two seasons, where he played 40 matches and contributed two goals. He made the move to Bolton Wanderers in 2009 and went on to play there for the following five years, being named captain in 2013. Knight scored four goals in his 191 appearances through five seasons with the Wanderers.
For the England national team, Knight made his first of two career appearances as a second half sub against the United States on May 28, 2005 at Soldier Field, in a 2-1 win for England. Three days later, he played the full 90 minutes against Colombia in New Jersey.
He will occupy Colorado's 7th International Player slot.
