HOW ACQUIRED: Signed on Feb. 1, 2016 as a Designated Player, joining the club in the summer transfer window.
Suffered a knee injury in Feb. 2016 and missed the season. Returned in 2017 to occupy a box-to-box midfield role for the Revs.
OUTSIDE MLS: Kouassi joined the Revolution following three seasons with Swiss Super League side FC Sion. The midfielder captained FC Sion and paced it in minutes played during the 2014/15 campaign. The midfielder captained the club during its run into the UEFA Europa League Round of 32, marking one of the club’s most successful outings in a European competition, in which the club faced Liverpool FC in the group stage, among others. Kouassi helped lead the club to its 13th Swiss Cup title in 2015 against the league favorite, FC Basel. The Revolution also acquired defender Jose Goncalves from Sion in 2013.
Prior to joining FC Sion, Kouassi spent four seasons with Swiss Super League side Servette FC. He recorded two goals, four assists, and 8,616 minutes played in 104 appearances for Les Grenats, also wearing the captain’s armband in several matches for the club during the 2012/13 campaign. Kouassi joined Servette FC from Séwé Sport de San-Pédro, a club in the Ivory Coast Ligue 1.
INTERNATIONAL: Capped once by the Ivory Coast, a substitute appearance in a friendly against Israel on Aug. 10, 2011. Kouassi also played for Ivory Coast’s U-23 side, making three starts in the 2011 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations.
