Option declined following 2017 season.

Bernardez is a physically imposing center back who has been a fixture in San Jose's backline since joining the club ahead of the 2012 season. He immediately slotted into the lineup and became a regular starter for San Jose's Supporters' Shield-winning team, a place he has yet to relinquish. In addition to his bruising style of defending, Bernardez produces a fierce shot from distance that he often utilizes on free kicks.

INTERNATIONAL: Bernardez has appeared in over 75 games for Honduran national team. He has represented the Catrachos in two World Cups (2010, 2014) and one CONCACAF Gold Cup (2011). He was also part of Honduras' UNCAF Cup-winning team in 2007.

OUTSIDE MLS: Started his professional career in his native Honduras, where he spent five years with Vida and Motagua. He transferred to Belgium's Anderlecht in 2008, where he spent parts of three seasons and captured a league title in 2009-10. Also spent time on loan at Lierse and Mexico's Indios de Juarez.
