An attacking left back who was raised in Southern California, Ryan Thomas is in his first season with the Galaxy after being taken by the club in the first round of the 2011 MLS Supplemental Draft. A four-year starter at Stanford, Thomas helped them reach the Third Round of the NCAA Tournament as a junior in 2009. A three-time UYSA national champion with Arsenal FC where he was a teammate of Hector Jimenez, Thomas had three assists in each of his last three years at Stanford and was named Second Team All-Pac-10 as a senior in 2010 after being an Honorable Mention All-Pac-10 honoree as a junior.

College Highlights

2010: Started all 18 of Stanford’s games as a senior, earning Second Team All-Pac-10 honors. He scored his first and only goal of the year on Senior Day, helping the Cardinal claim a 3-0 win over Oregon State on 10/31. He also had an assist in that game, giving him a goal and an assist in the same game for the first time in his college career. Thomas added assists in the 4-1 win over Santa Clara on 9/19 and the 3-2 loss in their season finale at Cal on 11/11. 2009: Helped lead Stanford to the NCAA Tournament, scoring once and adding three assists in a career-high 20 games. An Honorable Mention All-Pac-10 honoree, he started all 20 of the Cardinal’s games as they reached the Third Round of the NCAA Tournament. He scored his only goal of the season with an overtime freekick in Stanford’s 2-1 win at San Diego State on 10/15. Thomas assisted on Stanford’s first regular season goal against Lehigh on 9/1 and then their first postseason goal as well on 11/19 against St. Mary’s. He also claimed an assist in the 1- 1 draw with Washington on 10/11. 2008: Started all 17 games in which he appeared in and led Stanford with three assists on the season. Two of those assists came on game-winning goals, helping his team beat Cornell 2-0 on 9/7 and then a 2-1 win over UCLA on 10/12. He also picked up an assist in the 1-1 draw with San Jose State on 8/31. 2007: Started seven of the Cardinal’s 18 games during his freshman season. He made his college debut, starting in the 2-2 draw with UC Santa Barbara on 8/31 in Stanford’s season opener. He tallied the first assist of his college career in the 4-0 win over Oregon State on 10/5.
