COACHES' BREAKDOWN: Brenes is not a typical No. 9, though he's a smart enough soccer player that he might be able to do well at the position. Instead, the Cosa Rican attacker's high soccer IQ produces brilliantly timed runs in behind opposing defenses. His movement off the ball is exceptional, but he also brings good pace, finishing, technical skill, and some strength to the table. Brenes can be a little streaky, but his biggest problem is self-inflicted: There's no such thing as a "light" training session for the Costa Rican, and sometimes he practices so hard that he can break down physically and injure himself. That otherworldly workrate and knack for picking out a run, though, will likely be enough to convince teams that he can fit in even if he can't play the traditional No. 9 role.
